I've always wondered what it would be like to put some Subversion hooks in place that always reformats code on commit, then programmers can do whatever they want in their working copies. This won't address naming, but it should let us move beyond tabs/spaces/curly braces/etc.

Curly braces, tabs, closures, and properties are only problematic because the editing form of our code is also the binary form.

You can do that already with IntelliJ and TeamCity. It's not Open Source, but I really hope the concept of "Post-Commit" will appear in open source software.
